Transportation Assistance Now Available to Patients!

Women's Cancer Care > News > Transportation Assistance Now Available to Patients!

We are pleased to announce that we are opening applications for Transportation Assistance!

Women’s Cancer Care was recently named the recipient of a $10,000 grant from the American Cancer Society to provide transportation assistance to patients in need. We currently are able to offer assistance in the form of gas gift cards to designated gas stations to those who qualify. Based on need, we may be able to provide ride share rides (Uber and Lyft) or non-emergency medical transport in the future.

Transportation Assistance

How Do I Qualify?

In order to qualify for transportation assistance, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be a Women’s Cancer Care patient in active treatment.
  • If transportation assistance or mileage reimbursement options are available through your insurance provider, we may require that you utilize these resources first before asking for additional assistance.
  • If American Cancer Society Road to Recovery Transportation (#1-800-277-2345) is available in your county, we may require that you utilize this resource first before asking for additional assistance.
  • Patients that are awarded transportation assistance are allowed up to $500 of assistance per grant cycle while funds are available.
  • Patients must have an annual household income under 500% of the Federal Poverty Level to qualify for assistance.  To determine if you are under 500% of the Federal Poverty Level, please visit this link.

How Much Will I Receive?

Amounts dispersed are based on the patient’s home address and how many miles are in a one way trip to the Women’s Cancer Care facility, located at 6121 N. Thesta St. Suite 204, Fresno, CA 93710.  After calculating the distance and the frequency of treatment/office visits, amounts will be dispersed by the month. Patients will receive their allotted monthly gas cards only in-person.

How Do I Apply?

Please fill out a transportation assistance application, found below or in our office. Once an application has been submitted, please allow 5-7 business days for your application to be processed.

What If I Need a Ride?

The American Cancer Society offers the Road to Recovery Program, which provides transportation to and from treatment for people with cancer who do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves. Volunteer drivers are between the ages of 18 and 84, have a valid driver’s license, pass a background check, and have access to a safe, reliable car. There are currently drivers available in Fresno, Clovis, Firebaugh, and Sanger! For more information on how to schedule a ride with the Road to Recovery Program, click here.
